Citizens of Space user review
Bloody marvellous!!! o/
The game has a lot of the same charm and quirkiness that Citizens of Earth had, while fine tuning the combat and character development.
Overall, Citizens of Space has great characters with typically poor followthru: dont expect amazing rpg components or fully fleshed out / balanced citizens (or use for everything); relax, pick a few of your faves for combat and coast thru and you can have a good time.
If you enjoyed citizens of earth you will enjoy this, it uses a paper mario styled combat system instead of earthbound, but all the other mechanics are similar to CoE, honestly the game has a few bugs that need to be ironed out, using the overlay at all causes the game to crash and the game will randomly freeze for up to 10 seconds, if you can deal with this then its worth it, if not then wait for a fix.
It's an incredible game but I miss having your party follow you and a controller is for sure required
I was a bit worried to purchase this game after seeing a few reviews that mentioned crashes and hangs. I don't own a powerful gaming computer so I was a bit apprehensive at first. Well, after playing it over an hour I must say, this is one of the first games that I actually plan to finish. Not one freeze up, not one crash, no blacked out areas, no need to update my graphics driver. I must just be lucky, right? Anyhow, I love the story, the sometimes corny and sometimes deeper humor, the perfect blend of casual play and slowly growing intensity of the mini-games and battles, the ability to bypass or redo tutorials is very helpful, the game controls are easy to pick up, the learning curve is perfect for me, the animations and voice-overs are top notch! I must find out who voices the Janitor!
I bought this game upon release because I liked the prequel citizens of earth. It is a good game but the issues I have with it are the game crashing glitches that stop me from enjoying it. Particularly when you access the Sheriff's talent or when you use certain attacks in the game that causes the audio to glitch and repeat which will eventually cause the game to crash. Normally I would be okay with this because at the time the game was newly released so I expected patches and hot fixes to be released to fix these issues but up until now those issues are still there. This leads me to think that the developers want to leave their game in that broken state and are only interested in cashing in on the game and not trying to fix the issues that I am sure many gamers are reporting.
First of all, erase the concepts that this is in fact a direct sequel to Citizens of Earth. In many ways, it continues along the story; but the systems to play this game are vastly different. They have evolved from their Earthbound-based battle system into something from say Super Mario RPG from the SNES era or Paper Mario from the N64. It is a bunch of minigames for abilities that is mixed with timed QTE events for reducing damage. In that aspect, this game shines and at the same time can be it's downside as some of the minigames are quite tedious. You will find yourself not as much button mashing but wishing your timing was a bit better on some of the heavier costing abilities which consume energy, health, and other various things.
A delightful, charming JRPG with big bouncy colorful characters. The combat is interactive, unlike the JRPGs of old, more like Stick of Truth. The voice acting of the main character is very good. I like the quests to recruit additional characters to the roster. It makes talking to NPCs interesting because you never know who you can get to join your party!
Citizens of Space has the aesthetic charms of games like Earthbound, Cuphead, and Broken Age - but way better looking than Broken Age. I am still playing through on Steam and have played extensively on Switch as well and am thoroughly enjoying Citizens of Space! This is the sequel to Citizens of Earth we have all been waiting for and has a lot of improvements to the game as well over its predecessor. The graphics are unique and fresh and give a new take on the RPG genre with unique party members, and really fun mini-games. The quips are hilarious, and the ambassador is both charming, and fun to play as with earth-wise implications at hand. Don't sleep on this one! I have been having a really good time with this, and I know you will too if you give it a chance! I haven't experienced any technical issues that some other players are reporting. This game is awesome, and you should be playing too!
