About This Game

About:

Having discovered an ancient portal, you take a leap of faith and suddenly find yourself amidst the remnants of an ancient alien civilization. Cryptic puzzles, forgotten technologies and treasured relics are riddled among the beautiful wilderness that has engulfed the remains of this fallen race.

If you are to learn their secrets, you must unearth the fate of the civilization that called these lost worlds home.

Epitasis is a sci-fi exploration puzzle game, set on far off distant worlds.

Features:

  • Explore at your own pace; traverse the colorful, non-linear world in any way you choose, day or night.
  • Learn to use alien machinery, provide power via lasers, disable security systems, and more.
  • Every area beautifully hand crafted, from large mountain swept vistas to the smallest of details.
  • Beautiful and dynamic soundtrack that evolves as you progress through the game.
  • Discover ancient relics, jump through space bending portals, and unearth the fate of the race that called these lost worlds home.

The Developer:

Epitasis features about 3-4 hours of content for the average player. It is a casual puzzle-exploration game, with a larger emphasis on art and atmosphere. It is built by essentially one developer and a composer, taking inspiration from incredible games such as the Talos Principle, Myst, and Fez, but is not designed to be nearly as challenging as those titles. Please don't hesitate to contact us to provide feedback, problems with the game, or to simply find out if this is the right sort of game for you.

    Epitasis user review

Things you should NOT expect from Epitasis

This game looks like The Witness, and the puzzles are basically identical to those in The Talos Principle, the only difference being they are VERY easy. My playtime was a bit under 3h (had dinner and afked otherwise with the game on) for 100% completion. The only challenge in the beginning of this game was finding where to start. You might get lucky with that, but the game itself gives no guidance, aside from controls tips. Unhappy to have paid 13€ (on sale!) for this. Would pay more like 5€ happily, it isn't a bad game.
    In A Nutshell

I'm afraid I have to say... no. I wanted to love it. It promised more than what's here. You're allegedly a researcher listening for signals from outer space that may be intelligent life. Sure enough, you find one. The signal works out to coordinates on Earth that take you to an open portal to the alien world. That's all in the prologue.
Geez, the reviews here have been harsh and I'm really quite suprised, because playing this was a fantastic experience.
I really wanted more out of this game. The concept has potential that you never really see come to fruition. On the positive side, the environments are beautiful and the music is outstanding. Story wise, other than a basic premise of their being aliens and you're navigating through something they've left behind, you never learn more about that.
Summary: Loved the aesthetics, music, and gameplay, puzzles were trivially easy, don't get it if you want any challenge.
    Epitasis

    Pros:
I'd definitely recommend this game if you like an atmospheric puzzle-adventure game that's relatively quick to finish.
I've been following this game on Twitter for a while, primarily because it looked amazing! When on sale, I finally got it, and I must say: it's definitely an awesome experience! The graphics look amazing, and the abandoned worlds tell a complete story all on their own. Although I must say, if you're looking for a super indepth story or lore, you won't find that in Epitasis,
This is a very, very good game. Excellent in fact. The soundtrack is much talked-about and it is very good and suits the atmosphere of the game and the mise en scène (if that term can be applied to a game). The graphics are quite extraordinary. I'm someone who had come off the back of (re)playing Timelpase (1996) on GOG but am comparing the graphics to Myst and Quern and am confirming that they are excellent. The 'story' is not deficient. It has an obscure, ethereal storyline and, like the best of games, it doesn't need a storyline per se. You understand it and are drawn into it quietly. The storyline didn't 'drive' me but you are rewarded in moving towards the conclusion of it by solving puzzles of great depth and breadth and you do have some sense of catharsis at the end of things. It's somewhat clinical and, as I understand it, similar to Portal/Portal 2 (although, I haven't played the aforementioned). It's good. It's excellent.
Unique experience the music is really good.
    Pros:
It's a pretty brilliant first person puzzle/simulator game. It falls in between the short and better portal style ones. I can actually recommend this to many casual to better puzzlers.
Pros: Enjoyable to play. You're always eager to find out what's next. Pretty. Inventive and varied level design. Bugs all seem to have been fixed by current version 1.03.
Cute little puzzle game. A little rough around the edges, but it makes up for it by being exceedingly pretty.
