GUILTY GEAR user review
It is what it is, a faithful port of the original Guilty Gear. So if you want to see where the series started, are a hardcore Guilty Gear fan, or just want to play it for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles then this is the perfect way to. If you can't play it locally, then I recommend using Parsec for playing the game with friends. There's nothing wrong with it, so it gets a strong recommendation for being a port of the original Guilty Gear.
GUILTY GEAR, a great way to see how the series started. I would recommend this to any guilty gear fan or fan of classic fighters in general.
If your monitor runs over 60hz, then so will the game! Unplayable at 120hz and beyond, with no vsync option or video mode changes or any smart throttling.
I recommend this game ONLY to people who love Guilty Gear. If you're just getting into the series, please for the Love of God start with Xrd or Accent Core.
This game is good, however there are other games that provide a more definitive Guilty Gear experience. This game is the very first entry into the series and it shows, mechanics are in their early stages, the roster is painfully small compared to other games, and versus is local only-- no online support. I recommend this game for collectors, because it is fun to see the origins of the Guilty Gear series and there is some enjoyment to be found here as a game. If you are looking to jump into Guilty Gear however, I would recommend either Accent Core +R, which has all of the characters in this game and many more, or Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator 2, which is the newest game in the series and has a magnificent tutorial for new players.
Only for guilty gear fans, this game is where all started, with team neo blood by the direction of daisuke ishiwatari, at one point this game was concidered to be a 3D figting game but ended beoing a 2D fighting game.
Great port...the only thing I miss is the little stereo player in the Sound Test =(
First up, this is a 20+ year old game so keep your expectations low. That aside, for being the first GG title it's a decent intro to the long-running franchise with some interesting tweaks, namely you'll see a couple characters that either didn't appear elsewhere or underwent major overhauls later in the franchise (Baldhead for example, he likely became who is now known as Faust). It also had a Mortal Kombat-like finishing system where, if you did the right move, you could insta-kill your opponent.
The gameplay is clunky and the graphics are chunky in this faithful PS1 port. It's still worthwhile to visit for a glimpse at fighting game history and the origins of Guilty Gear's unique characters if you're a fan of the series.
Fantastic looking Unity Recreation, feels smooth to play, will update as I play more.
This is a pretty good port of GG, but I could recommend it to GG fans only.
Even after 20 years Guilty Gear is still a fun game, however for new comers I say you should stay away for from this game as this is the first one and some gimmicks that this game has did not fly back then and would not fly today either. The first problem this game has is that some of the characters will spam attacks and Ky is the worst one from this as he has these attacks that will do a lot of damage and this one attack that will launch you to the other side of the screen, Chip will spam his instant kill move the most (which I will get to soon), Testaments poison can take up a whole health bar, and Judgement has 3 attacks that are pretty much almost unblockable and I say almost. Now the next problem is not really bad at first but has a gimmick tied to it that can be and that is with the two health bars you can get, when you are on you're second health bar you then can spam you're Overdrive attacks to you're hearts content. The next problem is the instant kill moves and each character has one, in the later GG games they will only take one round and you can only use them once even if you missed, however in this game you can spam you're instant kill moves even if you miss them and if you get hit by the instant kill move you lose the two rounds and in the future games you only lose one. The next problem is the characters as their are the 3 unlockables but you can only play them in 2P mode and there is no you vs AI and the controls are a bit hard to pull off as well. Now those are the cons to this game however there are a few pros that actual IMO out weigh the cons and that is the characters are all diverse and none play the same, the soundtrack is really awesome and I wish there was an OST to this game as it's just so nice to listen too and Judgement's theme is so bad ♥♥♥. The game is also very fast paced and the load times are also fast as well. I recommend this game to fans of the Guilty Gear series and fans only as if you are new to the series play XX Core Plus or Xrd but other then that I recommend this game.
