Too many people sleeping on this one. Just because some top tuber hasn't done a "lets play" or "speed run" video of it, doesn't mean its not good.
what a good time. this takes inspiration from some things you'd not expect would go together but actually do (blake stone, star trek 25th anniversary, star control/strange adventures in infinite space, oregon trail, etc.). the visuals/audio and writing are a blast
This game is awesome! It's like I am in an episode of Star Trek where I am playing Doom for my away missions. For $10 it's a steal and really hits the mark with old school fun and new school charm.
SUMMARY: A must-buy retro space roguelike adventure composed of multiple retro minigames - from simple puzzles to FPS to space battles. Not only clever in its old-school approach, but a grand example of minimalism of gameplay AND combining different games together. The result is fun, surprisingly deep, and smart. Plus the dev is responsive to adding new ideas. Perfect for fans of retrogames, the DOS era, and survival adventures.
I took a chance with this title. But. Just wow. There is a ton of feel to games of the early 90s here. A good cross section of resource management, early 90s fps and a definite nod to games like Wing Commander. The soundtrack really ties it all together (Hey Zotnip, can I get a copy of that?) and the cutscenes were so, so familiar in feel.
I love it!!!
Just bought it, first little bit in and I am already hooked. WOW. Like others have said this reminds me of early DOS space games, like the original "Master of Orion" and it's art and gameplay that drew me in way back in 1993 on my old 386. The game music is awesome, please make the soundtrack available as a DLC! I love it. In the world of too much eye candy with games today, this hits the spot for some good old nostalgia and classic game feel. Well Done! Keep it up!
This is a masterpiece in the making.
Game is pretty good.
Here's a Totally Objective Review of the Game:
I love the atmospheric splash screens done in pixel graphics, and the nostalgic music/sound effects. 4 hours in the game strikes me as pretty hard on the first run through or two, then it seems to get much easier. We'll see. It's possible I play this game after beating it once, but either way I feel like I'll have gotten exactly what I expected/my money's worth.
It is a lot like Oregon Trail in space (which is a good thing), though really just in the basic concept, not in the particular mechanics. You have a destination to reach and a series of stops along the way to try and get the supplies you need. That supply management is pretty complex. There are multiple resources that you always need to travel, and a bunch of others that you'll need to solve problems along the way. Prices and availability differ at every stop you make, so you have to weigh the cost of stocking up now vs. later, or whether's it's worth taking risks for supplies instead of purchasing them.
I can't praise this game enough! I don't know how long I will be playing it, but as others have mentioned, it is well worth the money, even if only for a short time. But, believe me, I will play this again!
Crazy good if you like games like this. Just draws you in and is fun to play.
Wow, this looked great! It's just Oregon Trail in space. Not for me. Maybe it's for you.
