On the other hand, the Making Of explaining how Koral was developed in a sailship got released too! The game was developed on a sailship in a pristine marine reserve in Northern Catalonia called Cap De Creus. Everything was recorded (including the trip to get there, a scuba diving adventure and various challenges that come from developing a game on a boat with limited power supply) and the most interesting parts are featured in the Making Of. .

Koral was awarded with an Unreal Dev Grant and was developed by Carlos Coronado, winner of over 15 awards including Titanium Indie Game of the Year with MIND: Path to Thalamus (Switch, Pc) and also developer of Infernium (PS4, Switch, PC) and Annie Amber (gearVr).

    Koral user review

I've 100% completed this game in just under two hours, including getting all the collectables. I could refund it but never would, the game and its message are beautifully shown and despite its very short playtime, I loved every minute. The game isn't difficult but isn't really designed to be, and as a message on marine life, its perfect.
This game is a love letter to the ocean rather than anything else, it reminds me quite strongly of Abzu. It's fairly short, and the "puzzles" are often borderline trivial, but it's well worth it in my opinion.
Sweet, emotional, thought-provoking journey into depths and back. Totally worth it, a bit short, but that's not a problem.
The game starts of with some nice visuals but quickly becomes boring and repetitive.
    MAGNIFICIENT 10/10
Side scrolling environmentally conscious educational puzzle game about coral reefs and oceans, and the human impact on both. A family friendly learning experience for any age. There is enough educational content it could be used in schools as part of a lesson. Now before anyone thinks an educational game is not fun, think again. The education is hidden among the 32 collectibles (shiny white sparkly glow balls) which explain coral reefs and oceans, and the devastation humans are causing. These collectibles can be found over 9 different oceanic environments of the 10 chapters. Each chapter has puzzle elements to them: sea currents, pollution walls, various plant and coral life, volcanic vents and cavern systems.
Koral is a beautiful, relaxing and fun game. The notes explaining aspects of sea life are a nice way to learn and add to the great sense of love for the sea the game shows in every aspect. The gameplay is simple but interesting, with puzzles never are too easy or difficult. The music and sound make it a soothing experience. The best of all is that the game is truly accessible with simple controls in all the devices.
I love educational games. Koral teaches us about one of the main consequences of global warming in a very artistic way. Beautiful graphics, atmosphere and soundtrack.
This is a fun little game. The puzzles are a little bit repetitive but not to the point of boredom; each chapter adds another little puzzle mechanic to help keep it fresh. The overall presentation reminds me greatly of ABZU (both games even run on the Unreal 4 engine), except Koral is a side scroller. But the theme of restoring marine life is similar. ABZU had an abstract storyline that was, to one degree or another, open to interpretation (the content appeared to be based on the Sumerian account of creation and rebirth), whereas Koral is aiming for an environmentally conscious theme. But like ABZU or Journey, the music is dynamic and changes with the flow of the game; it works well here. The colors are pretty, especially when all of the graphic settings are maxed out in 3840x1600 ultrawide. I have to admit I don't really see $10 worth of game here, but it's an indie game that I can tell received a lot of TLC from the developer, so spending a few extra dollars more then I otherwise would isn't a problem. If you want action and want to blow stuff up, this game isn't for you and you should look elsewhere. If you want to relax, this game is worth taking a look at.
I found Koral by chance by browsing underwater games and oh boy, was I glad Steam recommended it! I've also seen the Making Of (HIGHLY recomendable to watch it before playing the game) and enjoyed the process of how this game was developed in a boat. About the game itself... it has amazing visuals and interesting puzzle elements. Puzzles are not hard to solve. Instead they are just enough dificult to make the game a little bit challenging and make you constantly stay on focus.
Nice visuals, nice puzzles, nice infos, nice message
Koral is a relaxing and beautiful looking game in a rather unique setting. Some aspects of it remind me a bit of Echo the Dolphin back on the SEGA Genesis. Most of the puzzles were pretty straight forward, but a few timed challenges near the end of the game took me quite a few tries. It's also great that the developer included accessibility features like text size options, and the ability to control the game using only one input.
Very beautiful game with atmospheric ambients. However you can`t really relax while solving puzzles, especially the ones which require speed. Still it is worth to be played.
Relaxing game, easy achievements and the graphics are well done.
