long description
About This Game
The Red Prison is a roguelike based on the OGL-content of the SRD for 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons. The Basic Rules is (largely) a stripped back version of those rules and this game takes a similar approach. The game mostly follows those rules faithfully and they are included with the download. Development is still in its early stages and at this stage any available builds are playable but unstable.
The game features four classes (fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric) and four base races with subraces (human, mountain dwarf, hill dwarf, wood elf, high elf, lightfoot halfling and stoutheart halfling). You can fully customise all aspects of your character and recruit magic users, fighters, thugs and priests as henchmen to support you as you explore the depths of the Red Prison. There is an infinite procedurally generated dungeon filled with hordes of monsters to encounter in this traditional roguelike.

The Red Prison user review
Extremely bare bones in its current state. No sound, simple tiles and cant scale UI/fullscreen that I could see so its running in a tiny window on my 57" 1080p LCDTV. Looks like a 7DRL project.
305 hrs in its one of my fave games now
Interesting project. Looking forward to what will become of it. For now it is interesting for an hour or two if you know how DnD 5e works.
I think the game is relatively good, it need a more coherent map and perhaps better graphims (like DawnHack for Nethack), and a help tool for command.
This game has already given me a place to improve my skills and understanding of Dungeons and Dragons, using 5th edition rules. Right now, I am learning about the fighter class, fighting style, and abilities such as second wind.
Pretty dope game, check it out if you are into retro roguelikes.
Great OGL 5e Rougelike. Excited to see where development goes.
+1 RPG

This little game is surprisingly good for an early access roguelike. I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
Basically nethack + DnD5e.
epic.
This game is actually very good if you are into old-school roguelikes such as Rogue, Hack, and Nethack. It plays very similarly to nethack, but simplified in terms of less keybindings. Nethack is one of my favorite games out there, and I sincerely hope that this game, The Red Prison will see the same levels of success and continued development. I also believe that this game would be a great way to get people who have only played more modern roguelike dungeon crawlers like Diablo into the origins of the genre. The interface is slick and organised very well, with your stats and nearby items/enemies in the area on the left of the screen, and the message log describing various actions and other status messages on the bottom of the screen. there are two graphical interfaces that can be toggled with the f1 key, one being the default graphics which look amazing and the developer should release it as a tileset that can be used in nethack and dungeon crawl (i would pay for that tileset lol) and ASCII graphics with two tile sizes. Like Hack, this game also pays homage to the oldest school dungeon crawling RPG, Dungeons and Dragons, but more directly, as it utilizes the base rules of D&D 5e, and uses content from the OGL SRD as well. All in all, for a game this new, it's very well put together and it has already found a spot amongst my favorite games in my Steam library.
Simple, to the point, old-school roguelike. Fun for anyone who likes them.
