Total War: THREE KINGDOMS user review
Before I start here’s my Total War Portfolio.
In light of the recent negative reviews (which are predominantly about CA's business practices), here's a review on 3K as a game.
I was hoping for another Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai, sadly this isn't it. It seems like CA can only do Warhammer stuff these days, the old devs that made the historical series so great probably left the company.
Disgusting policies will be the end of CA.
Nice to know that total war was put in the right hands. Increasing the prices of all the previous titles. Nice job NetEase and CA
As someone that has played the series for almost 2 decades now this just doesn't feel the same. The last game I really enjoyed was shogun 2, and Rome 2 sorta after it was updated and improved. Now Im back to playing Empire and Napoleon because they just have what i consider to be the total war feel.
I had to stop playing near launch from how buggy and all the features that should be in it not being there. I come back like 6 months later and its still a buggy POC, AI is trash, the world still feels empty and bland. Then i start reading up on how the DEVELOPER is treating the modding community and fanbase like trash. Even going as far to perma ban some guy for making so tame portrait mod for the female generals by a power tripping Community manger. sorry about the rant. but for real this game has been so mismanaged that i would think most of the player base would be take a refund if they could get one and be more careful of buying a game from Creative Assembly
Three kingdoms is definitely a step forward from previous total war games since the decline after Shogun 2. It brings in a fresh new diplomacy menu with many options that allow negotiations to be a lot less static and a scoring system that allows you to properly understand what you can do to make a deal work. The new generals are an interesting concept as you are hiring specific skills for your army that lead to specific units. Customizing the generals is enjoyable at first until you start to see the same swords and armour with only a few actually changing the look of your general. The family tree has been refreshed and the court is once again something to stay involved with as you need to balance the relation of the generals in your court and army. The campaign map is nice and battles last longer to actually be worth controlling the fight. Settlements have a wide variety of buildings as well to make it necessary to manage your settlements properly.
As someone who has every TW, don't buy this. It feels like a TW Warhammer reskin. TW warhammer is a good game but the arcadey style of the game feels off in historical titles. I would love another Empire/Napoleon.
3Kings seems to be a retrograde step for TW. It seems to tried to imp[ort aspects of an FPS game. If I wanted a FPS game I would have bought one. I buy TW for the strategy and tactics.
unpopular opinion: this is the best total war installment
I love the characters. Every available general to recruit i Google their name to see what there story is. So lovely.
Food is power
The campaign map looks amazing but the rest of the game feels like it was made for mobile. Probably the lowest quality of all the Total War games.
A very good strategy game and an improvement to the previous total war saga.
''A Little Impatience will spoil great plans'' - A Chinese Proverb.
The plot in the game is basically based on "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms". In addition to some basic forces in the game of the Three Kingdoms, players can also play the role of the Yellow Turban Army, the Han Empire, or the Mountain Power. As time goes by in the game, events that have occurred in the history of some three countries are automatically triggered.
great historic strategic game.
Over 450 hrs played already, the base game is fantastic although dlcs can do better.
